In 1972, a group of married couples most of them were very active in a ministry called, Cursillos de Cristiandad, from the Archdiocese of Miami. They felt there was a need to unite and guide families with young children. These couples wanted to create a community of families. They discussed different types ways and formats of how implementing a program. After several meetings; they agreed in structuring a format with the same style as Cursillo. A couple named, Ernesto and Adelita Roche, with the collaboration of Rafael Marques came up with the idea of hosting a family retreat for families with children between the ages of three to twelve years old. The first Impactos of Christianity was held in February 1973. From Impactos of Christianity; other movements followed such as Camino, Encuentro Juveniles and many others.
Why the name Impactos?
During the initial meetings; all the married couples involved agreed that whatever program they created. It had to have a substantial "Impact" on those families and their communities. Then someone said that the name of the ministry should be called, IMPACTOS. It was a result of a conversation, not that they were specifically trying to come up with a name in those initial meetings.
